Certification Study Materials

I’m currently working on Exam 70-640: TS: Windows Server 2008 Active Directory, Configuring

Here is what I’m using:

Kaplan – IT Learning – SelfTest Software: http://www.selftestsoftware.com/

70-640 Microsoft Certification Practice Products – TS: Windows Server 2008 Active Directory, Configuring

Kaplan was purchased by Transcender, a fairly popular and well known materials provider. After some research I found Kaplan’s product to be comparable and better priced so I’m giving it a shot.

MCTS Self-Paced Training Kit (Exam 70-640): Configuring Windows Server 2008 Active Directory (Hardcover) ~ Tony Northrup (Author), Dan Holme (Author)

Hardcover: 860 pages

Publisher: Microsoft Press; 1 edition (June 14, 2008)

Language: English

ISBN-10: 0735625131

ISBN-13: 978-0735625136

I’ve used the MS Press materials for a last few Certs and found it works rather well.

First Term as Full Time Instructor

WoW! (and not World of Warcraft – geek reference). This has been one heck of a term, it flew by pretty quick but it was a lot of work and alot of adjustment. I think I’ve done well in adapting. Things are certainly getting done, and about half way through the term I got caught up. Shouldn’t be hard to maintain until the end of the term.

I’m hard at work expanding the courses I’m qualified to teach, or ready to teach. I want to have a fairly decent list (6 or 7 courses) I can teach. Also wouldn’t mind teaching in another dept down the road. Business most likely. While I don’t have a globs of business experience, by Master’s is in business and I’ve done some business management in my career.

Right now I’ve got:

  • CIS-240 – Server Administration
  • CIS-289M – Active Directory
  • CIS-288M – Networking
  • CIS-120 – Intro to computer concepts

I’m working on teaching CIS-287I – Web Server administration. I’m developing the plan for CIS-287I and planning to take a course to brush up on my Unix/Linux. Cause it’s been a long time since I spent much time at the command line.

I’m well on my way to a decent list of courses.

My current work in Progress – MCITP: Server Administrator

The Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) credential provides the ideal way to demonstrate your ability to use Windows Server 2008 to excel in a specific, market-relevant job role. We offer two paths: each builds on MCTS prerequisites and is relevant to professional roles in today’s IT marketplace. Use the following table to identify the certification that best fits your current role and career goals.

MCITP: Server Administrator – Validates your ability to handle day-to-day management of the server operating system, file structure, and directory services; handle software distribution and updates; monitor servers; provide tier-2 troubleshooting support; support engineering and change-management projects; build and configure servers; implement auditing policy; perform scheduled vulnerability-assessment scans; and monitor logs for firewalls and intrusion-detection systems.

(In Progress) Exam 70-640: TS: Windows Server 2008 Active Directory, Configuring

Exam 70-642: TS: Windows Server 2008 Network Infrastructure, Configuring

Exam 70-646: PRO: Windows Server 2008, Server Administrator
